What's it like to study Teaching Diploma
It's still the first semester so i don't know how much to expect yet but it seems for now like it's gonna be a very busy year so far i registered four courses, one of them is called educational media and technology and that's where i'm learning right now to create my own blog which is for now designed strictly for education, there are a few requirements within this course of which each one of us students must attend a webinar which i'll be discussing its subject in a different post, essentially we're experiencing how important technology is in our educational systems these day and how one can benefit from what technology has to offer in facing the challenge of teaching, because it's vital to know that teachers aren't born simply with knowledge there's a lot more to it and this year is proof enough of how much us teachers still don't know and how much we have to learn, because believing that one is either innately good at something or bad at it is not how we build ourselves to becoming better teachers. So in short education doesn't come without effort an perseverance.
Webinar (Student motivation: Less Strict, More Carrot)
Education has very little to do with explanation, it has to do with engagement and falling in love with the material. Brisa Ayub and Scott Taylor discussed how education is more about caring than merely delivering information, showing students that they exist, passion plays a big part in teaching.
They also discussed that teachers should be inventive, meeting students where they at by getting to know them, becoming a role model for their interest, asking students what interest them can help teachers in their approach to teach the students, a teacher must make his content his own so the students could remember it forever. He should be free with praise and constructive in criticism, and promote skills that go beyond just the competition, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and character.
Brisa and Scott were highly concerned with how much the teacher can affect the education of students and how easy it is to reach their minds simply by believing in them, believing that with effort, their ability and performance can improve.
It was a very important experience to attend this event, very educational and the points that were discussed are very essential.
